Sker Ritual is an intense, round-based zombie horror shooter created by the independent studio Wales Interactive. It offers both solo and online cooperative gameplay for up to four players. The game challenges players to face relentless waves of enemies called “Quiet Ones” while completing mysterious missions, discovering hidden Easter eggs, upgrading steampunk-inspired weapons, and acquiring “Miracles” – a system of powerful abilities linked to Celtic deities.
Overview
Set in 1914, the game’s story revolves around Elisabeth Williams, who has taken control of Sker Island and aims to broadcast the Siren’s Song to dominate the world. Players are mysteriously awakened and must join forces with Elisabeth’s daughter, Arianwen, to prevent the broadcast and save humanity from a hellish fate. While not a direct sequel, Sker Ritual is a first-person shooter spin-off from the award-winning British indie horror game, Maid of Sker.
The game is designed to be played solo or cooperatively with up to four players online. The difficulty adapts to the number of players, ensuring a balanced experience regardless of team size. Players can also find teammates through the official Sker Ritual Discord community.
Sker Ritual introduces new elite enemies alongside the returning Quiet Ones, each with unique abilities that force players to adapt their strategies and potentially seek help from teammates. The game promises a diverse cast of horrifying foes to challenge players.
A key gameplay element is the Miracle system. By defeating enemies, players can acquire Miracles – upgradable powers tied to Celtic gods that enhance various aspects of combat, including shooting, melee attacks, grenades, and healing. Players can choose from three random Miracles upon pickup, with a special slot reserved for an “Ultimate” ability to be used in critical moments.
The game offers cosmetic customization through collectable masks inspired by various horror subgenres, as well as unique voice lines for taunting teammates and selectable menu environments.
Players can purchase weapons, ammo, and supplies from “The Laughing Policeman’s” booth located throughout the game’s maps. This vendor offers standard munitions and a gambling option for randomly selected weapons with a chance of higher base levels. Weapons can be further enhanced using “The Laughing Policeman’s SUPER CHARGER,” granting bonus attributes and visually impressive steampunk-style upgrades.
